  1. Position:         Media and Communication Specialist  (Fixed term contract)

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement communications and media strategy, as needed for each program and Organisation wide.

  • Work closely with Directors and internal stakeholders  to build, strengthen and manage the corporate image and reputation of the FHR, producing corporate publications, managing the information on the intranet, website and social media platforms, manages strategic stakeholder engagements, public outreach and media relations

Internal and external communication planning and stakeholder engagement

  • Design communication plans with support of senior stakeholders
  • Implement annual communication plans through effective channel selection
  • Educate other staff on the use of social media and promote its use within the organisation .
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with team members and partners organisations.

Social Media strategy

  • Develop creative and engaging monthly social media plan
  • Create messaging and collaborate with the Programme team to produce high quality engaging multimedia content across multiple platforms.
  • Manage day-to-day social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn,, Tiktok, Youtube etc.
  • Develop, launch and manage new competitions and campaigns that promote the organisations and brand.
  • Respond to all on-line generated queries via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, r, Youtube, TikTok, Google reviews and any other review sites
  • Channel complex queries to relevant parties for resolution when required
  • Ensure that complex queries referred have been resolved

Grow Market share

  • Set targets with Directors and Programme Managers to increase brand awareness and increase viewers engagement
  • Form key relationships with influencers and advocacies across the social media platforms
  • Undertake audience research and disseminate content to increase social media follows/likes/engagement

Reporting and Monitoring

  • Monitor, track, analyse and report on performance on social media platforms using tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook insights
  • Research and evaluate the latest trends and techniques in order to find new and better ways of measuring social media activity
  • Analyse competitor activity

Participation in FHR projects as required

  • Participate in general FHR projects as required

Experience

  • + 5 years of Experience in a communications and media management.
  • Excellent IT skills (MS Office, Office 365, including SharePoint)
  • Managed external and internal communications including all media channels
  • Understanding of local South Africa Socio Economic market
  • Working knowledge of and commitment to human rights in the South African context;
  • Two years relevant working experience in civil society, with a focus on gender added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in an environment with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with community-based stakeholders an added advantage.

  • Excellent SOE management and communication skills;
  • Writing, Analytical skills and report writing skills;
  • Ability to relate to people at all levels.
  • High level of professionalism;
  • Writing, Analytical skills and report writing skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adhere to deadlines and set priorities;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, including developing workplans and schedules;
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, including knowledge of Word l;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for South Africa will be an advantage.

Functional competencies:

  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and writing skills.
  • English proficiency (Fluent in English, verbal and written skills).
  • Excellent writing, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.

  • Being flexible, creative and proactive
  • Must be much organised with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects/activities.\
  • Having competent project management skills
  • Being able to prioritise projects and tasks

Education

  • A Bachelor degree in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing
  • Excellent attention to details, being methodical and organized.
