FHR in partnership with Street Law has completed as series of workshops for CAOs

In partnership with Street Law, the FHR conducted two-day capacity-building workshops across the country which were aimed at community-based paralegals and community advisory offices (CAOs) from various provinces. The workshops covered subjects such as family law, death and succession planning, employment law, consumer law, governance, the FHR CAO Sustainability Survey Report, proposal-writing, narrative and financial report writing and sector updates. Facilitators used the new edition of the Street Law: Practical Law for South Africans learner and educator manuals and other materials prepared on behalf of Street Law. Advocate Lesala Mofokeng, Advocate Lindi Coetzee, and Mr Malibongwe Puzi from the FHR facilitated the workshops. Participants gave the following positive feedback: “I feel confident that after this workshop I will be able to assist those in need of my services better as I have gained more knowledge”

“I feel confident because I know how to distinguish between civil marriage, customary marriage and civil union…”.

The workshops were attended by a total of 238 participants in Johannesburg, East London, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein and Cape Town (some provinces were clustered).
