NGO consultation on the human rights situation in South Africa with Commissioner Solomon Dersso on 30 April 2020

The FHR presented on the situation of human rights in South Africa, with a focus on the impact of Covid-19 on women and girls in South Africa, to Commissioner Solomon Dersso, Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights. In response to our submissions, Commissioner Dersso wrote an urgent letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 12 May 2020, regarding critical areas of concern, such as the enforcement of lockdown measures by security forces, the protection of women and girls during the lockdown, the socio-economic hardships facing large number of South Africans, and the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups including refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in the context of the lockdown measures.
