Resource Book for Savings Groups: Mobilising solidarity through savings groups

The purpose of this resource book

This book is for the use of community educators and self-organised community groups that are interested in finding ways to help marginalised and economically excluded groups. It will help build their capacity to fight poverty, especially in areas where no formal financial support systems are
available. Through shared accountability and democratic participation, the group will be able to build strong relationships in which people care for and rely on one another. This will help them challenge poverty.

This book provides basic information on how to form a savings group, maintain its membership and strengthen its activities. It includes the stories of successful savings groups, as well as basic tools for establishing and maintaining a savings group. It will also show how some communities have worked
together to form community funds and use their own currencies.
